    Hi,

    In the Visualforce page add the tag:

    <apex:pageMessages />

    In the controller class add the error message where required

    if ( requiredFieldName == null){

    ApexPages.addMessage(new ApexPages.Message(ApexPages.Severity.ERROR, 'Please enter a value in the Required Field'));

    }
