Is it possible to fire validation only for records which is being getting updated not to newly inserted records?

Hi Anjali,
Yes .
Check out ISNEW( ) and ISCHANGED( ) functions .
Rule entries which contains ISNEW( ) says if there is a new record created ,it will fire .
Those which contains ISCHANGED( ) says if there is a change in exixting record ,rule will fire .
you can try this.
