Governor limits are Salesforce's way of forcing you to write efficient, scalable code.
A few examples of Governor Limits are:
    1. Total number of records retrieved by a SOQL query – 50,000.
    2. Total number of SOQL queries issued – 100 (Synchronous) 200 (Asynchronous)
    3. Total number of DML statements issued – 150.
